Hey folks,

You may have noticed on the calander that All-State auditions are comeing up quickly Follow this link(http://www.wmea.org/StudentEvents/HSHonorGroups/2010HSAudition.htm) to see the requirements for the auditions. MEN'S Fest Explosion

We now have 20 Men Signed up for the Men's Choral festival in Everett. Unfortunately we have no confirmed drivers to get us there.
We have reserved the only vehicle available at school and that will take 8 so we have 12 to go.

Parents please consider driving to this great event so that we can get as many men involved as possible.

In other news. Storm Singers did a fantastic job singing the National Anthem yesterday for our first public performance.

Thanks

Andy

Parent BBQ ...Yes!!

The Parent Dinner was a Success!

Big Thank you to the Nakatani's for offering up there beautiful home for this BBQ!!

Thanks All you parents that came and participated. We got a huge jump-start on a lot of the communications and logistics that are essential for our program and much more difficult to accomplish during school.

Things we discussed:
Tour

The dates under consideration

  • June 3,4,5,6 (graduation week is the next week )
  • April (was printed incorrectly as "May") 8,9,10,11 (last 4 days of spring break)

The Places under consideration

  • L.A. (Disney Music Days) $950-$1000/student
  • San Fransisco $600 - $650 / student
  • Seattle $350-$375

Fundraising Ideas

Things we did last year

§ Entertainment books (already underway)
§ Dessert auction (raised +$1000 last year) (First concert is OCT. 21)
§ Quilt Raffle (now that I know what needs to happen this will probably go smoother)
§ Cabaret (big success last year and something I think we can expand upon this year)
§ See’s Candy (pretty easy and nice to have chocolate around)
§ Butter Braid

Possible Ideas for potential fundraisers

§ Rehearsal seminar (people pay tickets to see Concert choir learn and perform a song)
§ “Singing and Flinging” Pancake feed
§ Benefit concert with feature Artist.

Consider being a chaperone at this and other events this year.

  • Sept 19th Men’s Fest Vocal workshop
  • October 9th Take 6 Concert at the “Lynden Music Fest”. (See Flyer)
  • Oct (tba) WWU Women’s Choral Fest
  • March 4, 5, 6 Frank Demero Jazz Festival
  • SJMEA choral Festival (WWU)
  • Solo & Ensemble April (if we make state again which I hope to!)
  • Tour
Denise Smith is putting together a committee to help with some of these decisions.

Also Denise will be heading up the creation of the SQHS choir Boosters coordinating with Kathy Dooley.

Thank you all that signed up to be drivers. You can get back to me with the paper work at your convenience.

Every one was very excited about the opportunity to work for discounted tickets at the TAKE 6 concert in Lynden on Oct 9. I will have more details about this as they arrive. Here is the link to the Lynden music festival http://www.lyndenmusicfestival.com For more information on the concert and performers.

We did not collect any money for fees at the BBQ so your student will have to bring a check in to Susan Swan at the ASB office. See your letter for more details.

Thank you for your questions on curriculum, policy, and direction with the program. Please feel free to contact me with any inquires on these and other matters at any time.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year!!

Thanks

Marshall

BOOT CAMP SUCCESS!

Storm Singers!!

I thought Boot camp on Saturday was a huge success and I hope to instate it as a tradition every year. Thanks for the positive comments I got from both parents and students. Judging by the amount we got done and the quality of voices we have this year I predict a stellar group.

If you were one of the ones that missed BOOT Camp. Hopefully we will catch you on saturday the 5th at the Nakatani's house (see the calandar for more details, clik on the event and details will appear.) The parents will have a lot to sign and learn so I hope you all can make it. (I realize that this is Labor day weekend and that a lot of folks have plans. Just let me know. You should be able to respond in the comments section of this post.

Check out the new YouTube videos that I posted of a few of the songs that we will be working on.

Don't forget that storm starts at 6:40 on Tuesday morning Don't be late and be ready to sing.
